Sports Talk

The world of sports from the perspective of a woman....and I am good at it. And, I'm usually right.
As you can see I love my Gators but, I truly have an overall affection and appreciation for the concept of competition. My first love of course is college sports....and those in my circle become fans because of me.
If it pertains to sports I have an opinion. Tune in often to read.

Coach Meyer Drops To His Knees

I think Coach Meyer's reaction really mirrored my reaction. I live and die with these Gators. And, it was just good to wake up on a Sunday morning and not have that sick feeling in your stomach because your beloved team didn't come through on Saturday
Go Gators!!! And, my we love our Coach Urban Meyer.....

What The Gators Said To The Media

Meyer, Florida v Georgia 2010

Meyer’s opening statement: “The team that we just beat played their hearts out. That’s a much better team than their record, and I think we’re a much better team than our record. This is obviously one of the great venues to come play at and, wow, that was just a great football game. Two teams that were just fighting, so I would never want to disrespect our opponent and I thought they played hard.”

Meyer on his team’s performance: “Our guys, wow, that was one of the great efforts. It wasn’t as pretty…We had a lead and then put your face in a bunch of guys that will be playing in the NFL. That receiver [A.J. Green], to have Janoris [Jenkins] keep him somewhat under control was a heck of a job. He played him basically the whole day. I’ve not seen anyone better than that as a receiver. Trey Burton played phenomenal. We had five big plays, which is something that’s been nonexistent. It was great to see Chris Rainey back. It was great to see Demps – still was not 100 percent – but to see him battle like he did.”

Meyer on why he has to single out redshirt junior quarterback John Brantley: “The one guy I want to mention [who] I thought did phenomenal was Johnny Brantley. Just his last name – it’s rather appropriate to have his uncle being [inducted] into the Florida-Georgia Hall of Fame – you can tell where that kid’s from. He’s a tough nut. He got hit – I mean, he got whacked a few times today – stood up, made some plays and helped us win that game.”

Meyer on the play calling and offense: “I thought Steve Addazio did a heck of a job with the in-and-out. 450 total yards of offense, we have to get this thing going and we’re still not done. Obviously we got a lot of football left to play and we got a lot of improvement to do because we still have penalties with that no-huddle stuff. But we’re going to continue obviously to do that, because we need an edge. If that’s our edge, which I’m kind of a fan of that right now, so we’re going to go even harder at that.”

Meyer on kicking the field goal to go up eight: “I’m managing the game, and I consider it a two-score game when you’re up by eight. We wanted to get the ball right where it needed to be and knock it through the uprights – and that’s what we did.”

Meyer on Demps: “Dempsy we hoped to play him more, but he was not…we all know Demps very well and, my gosh, we got to get him back.”

Meyer on if Rainey surprised him: “No, because he’s been back for a while. He’s been practicing three weeks. That’s a far cry from where we were when I got the message 15 minutes before kickoff [that] we don’t have a healthy tailback. We had a few of them today.”

Meyer on if he is no longer down on the offense: “Heavens no. Changes my opinion for this game, but we’re going to come back. I can name seven stupid penalties because of the no-huddle, the up-tempo. The thing I did like: the physical-ness, the fact that we had big plays, and the fact that we wore that team down – and that’s a good team.”

Meyer on why it took him so long to run the no-huddle after Oklahoma impressed him with it in title game: “[WR] coach [Zach] Azzanni did a great job helping us install this. I made the decision we’re doing it. We started this about three weeks ago, but it looks awful if you’re not having time to get going with it. So we’re committed to it.”

Meyer on who he was jawing with and doing the Gator Chomp to in the stands:Laughing]” “Someone real important – real important. [

Meyer on the importance of the win: “This is as big of a win as we’ve had. We’ve had some great wins around here, some people would say more important. I’d probably argue that one. This is the biggest win that I can remember I’ve coached in a long time. From demeanor, from recruiting, from just those guys in that locker room. That was an emotional locker room now afterwards. These guys [have] been through hell and back in the last three weeks, man.”

Meyer on why the win was so important: “Because we got our brains kicked in the last three weeks and we needed to get the ship righted. We really didn’t get our brains kicked in; we came away from two games just like this. Resiliency of these young players to experience it, our young players haven’t experienced a win like that. The older guys have – they’ve had a bunch of wins, but our young players haven’t. Sometimes what I don’t want to do is all of a sudden you have a team saying, ‘What is this really worth? As hard as we go?’ I mean, our practices are ridiculous. At some point, you better get the reward. And that’s why [the win] was critical.”

Meyer on being caught smiling: “I just felt good. We needed that. My family needed that. Everybody needed it. A bunch of families in there needed it. Awfully grateful.”
Addazio on using multiple quarterbacks: “We need all three of them. There were all kinds of things going on that add different elements. We wanted to fatigue [Georgia’s defense] out.’’

Pouncey on the win: “It felt great. I’ve been around here a long time and that was one of the best feelings of my life.”

Pouncey on Henry’s game-winning field goal: “It meant a lot to this team. We were behind Chas 100 percent even when he missed them. He’s part of our team. He’s one of our brothers. He played one of his best games and made the winning field goal.”
Hill on his overtime pick: “I thought I scored.”

Redshirt sophomore WR Frankie Hammond, Jr. on the hurry-up offense: “It’s effective, because it will slow down a defense. We got a W with that. We’ll go from there. It’s a work in progress. They just put that in a few weeks ago.’’
Burton on the speedsters returning: “[Rainey and Demps] are unbelievable. Those are real special guys and we missed them a lot the last three games.”

The Heat Keep It Going

Coach Meyer Talks About Win

Gators Celebrate

2010 Gator Basketball Team

Coach Meyer and Coach Richt

Coach Meyer has gotten the best of this rivalry. And, I think we may have seen the last of Coach Richt in this series. This Gator team is not that good. So, most of Dawg nation was thinking this was their year. Obviously not be once again...even though it was close. I just don't think CMR survives another year of disappointment by their fan base.

Gators Win!!!

Thanks to everyone for putting up with me. No one bothered me til the very end. And, yes, once again I know that I must do something about this overwhelming need for my Gators to always be on top. It's not happening this year and I must move on. And to Donovan....no I don't want a tight game. I want the game over at halftime....just ask How. Just not happening this year though.....
But, I will take this close game. The way we are playing I will take any win. Against Georgia though this is a little sweet. If we can win out against Vandy and South Carolina we got ourselves a new season. Hope is something else isn't it?

Now, when are we going to make the switch at QB. I know Trey Burton is not the most polished passer but, it is obvious he is the best athlete on the field. And, when you have that kind of talent you have to make him your leader. We have given Brantley all the time in the world to get better.

More to come of course.....

Coach Ham...Then And Now

That's Coach Ham on the back row.....wow, what a difference

Gator Football

The football players talk with the media on Wednesday. I was telling How, Coach, and everyone else that has asked me about the game that I will not be there, and I won't watch on tv. They will have to finish this season without my presence and just my prayers. It's too painful to watch. It's a good thing basketball is starting to divert my attention.
Go Gators!!!

Didn't Know My Gators Were #1 In Volleyball

Gator Volleyball continues to be undefeated in SEC play. Callie seems to be having a great year.

Senior Florida outside hitter Callie Rivers (Winter Park, Fla.) charted a match-high-tying 11 kills on 21 swings with no errors for a .524 hitting efficiency Wednesday to direct her team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-13) win against South Carolina on a primetime showdown on ESPNU in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center.

“Callie Rivers played pretty special tonight both in the front row and back row,” Florida head coach Mary Wise said. “She had one of the best performances of her career tonight.”

The Gators (19-1, 12-0 Southeastern Conference) won their 14th consecutive match and posted their seventh sweep in the last eight matches. Florida, which entered the match with the 16th-best hitting efficiency in the NCAA, hit .323 for the match, marking its third consecutive match hitting better than .300. The Gators limited the Gamecocks to just an .057 hitting efficiency, marking their second-best hitting-percentage defense of the season and their best in a conference match this year. It marked the fourth time this year that Florida has held an opponent under .100 hitting for the match. The Gators out-blocked the Gamecocks 9.0-2.0.

Florida Basketball

Four UF players were named to all the All-Southeastern Conference coaches preseason men's basketball team.

Forward Chandler Parsons made the first team, while guards Kenny Boynton and Erving Walker and forward Alex Tyus made the second team.

Parsons emerged as UF's most versatile player last season, averaging 12.4 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He also showed a flair for the dramatic, hitting game winning 3-points in wins over South Carolina and North Carolina State.

Boynton averaged a team-high 14 points per game, while Walker averaged 12.6 points and 4.9 assists. Tyus averaged 11.8 points and 6.9 rebounds.

Meyer Talks About Florida/Georgia Week

Blakely Commits To The Gators This Morning....

Ed Aschoff reports...

Mike Blakely remembers telling Bradenton Manatee coach Joe Kinnan about his college plans back when he was a sophomore.

Two years ago, Manatee's running back told his coach he'd sign with Florida if he was ever offered by the Gators' staff.

Well, Florida offered, and after silently committing to the staff last week, Blakely held his word and became Florida's 18th commitment of the 2011 class when he made his public verbal pledge during a ceremony at Manatee Tuesday.

"Florida, I love Florida," said Blakely, whom Rivals.com rates as a four-star prospect and the seventh-best running back in the country.

"The atmosphere is crazy, the orange and blue. I've always liked Florida."

Though Florida was in the lead for most of Blakely's recruitment, the Gators weren't the lock he expected them to be once he started getting more attention from other schools.

By his senior year, Blakely collected around 20 major college offers, forcing him to slow down the recruiting process. The Gators still held a slight lead after the summer, but Florida appeared to relinquish that lead to Auburn shortly after Blakely's season started.

Once Auburn leapfrogged Florida, rumors spread that Blakely was actually a "silent" commitment to the Tigers.

Blakely said those were just rumors and nothing more.
Now, Blakely is not only happy being a Gator, he's pleased to be done with the recruiting process.

"It's been a hassle," he said. "I've been talking to people for a long time. I'm tired of it."
Clay Burton Switches Commitment To The Gators....

Finally some good news coming out of Gatornation.....

Gatorsports reports

Burton, who is the younger brother of current Florida freshman quarterback Trey Burton, picked the Gators after previously being committed to Notre Dame.

"I'm a Gator," Clay Burton told Scout.com. "It's just an opportunity that I can't pass up. I wasn't ready a year ago, or even six months ago, but like my brother said, I'm ready now and I earned it."

Clay Burton, who recorded 80 tackles and 13 sacks as a junior, originally committed to Notre Dame in June. He is 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds.

A Post by Scot Redman.....

If you are not a Gator you probably think this really long. But, at least it helped to put things in perspective for me....DIEHEART GATOR.....

It is a new experience for Gator fans and staff alike and because of that the hysteria is everywhere about reacting quickly to change everything that has gone wrong so far this year.  All I can say is that folks need to slow down or at least expect it to slow down.
Urban Meyer is in no hurry to get rid of anyone, to make wholesale changes on his offense, and certainly is not breathing down the neck of his defensive staff. At this point in time, I would consider every job on the staff very safe.

However, what I am hearing is that things are actually heating up for one or more of the assistants in terms of other jobs and promotions elsewhere at least in terms of job title. I actually think this is a very likely scenario and much more likely than Meyer changing anyone’s job titles by the end of the year.

Here are just a few comments about things for maybe a little perspective and understanding why I feel this way and why this is what I am actually hearing from folks in the know.

Special teams have been pretty poor in the last few games, but there are some legitimate reasons for the mess. Your number one and two kick off guys are now injured, so Chas Henry is kicking off and kicking field goals. Henry boots the second half kickoff out of bounds because Brad Phillips kicked his hip out of whack kicking the ground on the kick off to open the second half. Phillips of course was replacing starter Caleb Sturgis. Henry, also misses four field goals in the last two games and he is not the regular kicker with Sturgis’ absence.  No doubt this is taking a toll on his punting as he is using three different techniques to kick the ball and so he has shanked three punts in the last two games, as someone that is a normally very reliable punter.

With Chris Rainey out Janoris Jenkins is returning punts, and has done a very good job when he gets a chance to return them. But, he also fumbled a couple, and caught three long punts inside the ten yard line (a real no no) really hurting the field position yet again.

As if all of that wasn’t enough, the Gators top four kickoff returners are now not playing either. Jeff Demps has been injured enough to keep him from playing on the unit. His back up was Mike Gillislee who has the same issue. His back up is Chris Rainey who has been suspended since the Kentucky game, and now Andre Debose went down. I am guessing Robert Clark would have returned the next kick in the game had Mississippi State scored again.

I have never in all of my years following college football seen a team lose that much at all the skill positions on special teams. We aren’t talking about starters only, at times we are talking about the fourth stringer having to get in there and make something positive happen. I’m not saying that Durkin has been perfect, but there is no way you can grade the guy on special teams with all of those issues on the field “all of the time”.

I’m not going to sit here and tell you that injuries are the only issue on offense but the fact is Mike Gillislee and Jeff Demps did not make a day of practice last week. Both played well when they ran the ball, but things like Demps fumble and Gillislee missing the two blocks on the sacks are the things that happen when you miss that much practice time.
This doesn’t even get into the issues they faced in the running game and probably a big part of why they started the game trying to throw the ball on the first six plays on offense and were unsuccessful doing it.

I know everyone was screaming for Mack Brown, but that wasn’t going to happen unless the Demps and Gillislee couldn’t go. I know folks point to Marcus Lattimore at South Carolina but you have to understand that coming in Lattimore was going to be their number one guy at the position. Coming into this season brown was slated as number four and actually Rainey would be getting some snaps ahead of him as well from the slot receiver position.  There is no way a guy that arrives in June will learn enough to play real snaps as the number five option in practice and getting little to no snaps. A comparison to Lattimore just does not compute.

However, if Demps couldn’t go against Mississippi State, Brown would have been put in the game more than the one snap he did play.

As for the offensive line, they have not run blocked well in my opinion. I think pass blocking has been adequate to decent, but run blocking could be better. Can there be any doubt that the health of the backs is a big part of that? That has to play a huge part not only at game time, but in the week of preparation leading up to the game when the guys that are running the ball are not even on the practice field.

They need to get better and they will in my opinion, especially with the health of the backs in the next few weeks.

Most people don’t know it, but Frankie Hammond is actually the guy getting the most snaps at receiver. He is really starting to earn his stripes and will become more of a mainstay than the unreliable Deonte Thompson. Don’t look for the staff to come out and say it, and Thompson might continue to start, but he won’t be in the game as much.
We are starting to see why Robert Clark is the guy of all the freshman receivers, that has gotten on the field on offense in his first year.  The fact is off the field, Clark does everything he is asked where none of the others can say that. He has become very reliable to the staff and earned more playing time.

Laura touched on it and Andre Debose has been getting a ton of reps at practice in the last three weeks. Debose not playing in the first half against Bama was one of the things that Meyer was not very happy with the offensive coaches during the game and so Debose came right out in the second half and made some plays. Stephen Alli was also told he would get his chance but didn’t make the most of it.  Alli remains an enigma as he is out on the field some but not doing the things they need him to do.

As for the offense that will be run this week at Georgia. My guess is it will be a lot of what we have seen so far, with a bit more Trey Burton at quarterback.  It won’t be more of Burton than Brantley, but honestly I thought since the spring that a healthy dose of the Burton style offense was something they would want to do.

One of the main issues not talked about with the offense is Brantley not seeing all of his open receivers. There are multiple times when this happens. Some of it can be chalked up to being hurried, other times he rushes when he actually does have time. He can see it in game film and he knows it is happening.

The crazy thing is that this didn’t happen all spring and doesn’t happen in practice every week. The staff believes without a doubt that it will pick up for Brantley and that it is all a product of him being a first year player at this level. He is the guy they are still molding the offense around at that position and still expect the offense to pick up greatly.

In the meantime Burton has earned as much trust as anyone on this team with his play, enthusiasm, and the like. He is a cerebral player that just lacks the arm to be an every down quarterback. They can certainly work with his tools at the position and as I mentioned his role should increase quite a bit.

One thing I want to touch on is play calling. Make no mistake about it, the play calling at Florida has been by committee since Meyer’s arrival at Florida.  The staff breaks it down into field segments and in each segment a coach calls the plays. For those that have been screaming for Billy Gonzales to be the coordinator, he was in charge of the red zone last year, the Gators’ worst field zone and biggest issue on offense a year ago.

The play calling will continue as is, with the exception that Urban Meyer has been and will be more involved than he has been in the past. Right now Steve Addazio and Scot Loeffler split the play calling by field zone and to be frank, I forgot to ask which coach has which zones.  The zones should be Coming Out (of the end zone), Middle of the field, and red Zone. My understanding is Meyer doesn’t believe there is that much of an issue with the play calling itself, but he wants to be a bigger part of it moving forward. He has jumped on it since before the Alabama game.

On defense, one of the issues I have heard has been the play calls are getting in late. This may have caused some of the confusion in the secondary in early games, but it hasn’t been a huge problem.

Contrary to rumors, I am hearing none of the defensive coaches are at risk of not working here next year if they want to. I would be surprised if this ever became the case.

One guy that has earned more time on the field is Ronald Powell at SAM linebacker. I know I told everyone that he would move back to defensive end next year, but I am now hearing he will likely stay at SAM and they like him both playing in space and rushing the passer from that position. With this possible permanent move, I have heard that transfer Chris Martin, will likely move to end.  Again, Martin is a guy they really want to get on the field as well.

Don’t be shocked if Josh Shaw moves to safety next year. He’s a big guy with good tools and the Gators need help at safety without a doubt. I am hearing that is a real possibility. Cody Riggs is evidently Austin’s pet at cornerback and I hear the fleet footed star is just relentless with his play and his practice habits.

Here are a couple of little basketball recruiting nuggets. The Gators seem to be in great position with Amir Williams, the big man from Detroit. Parents and the kid love Gainesville. He won’t be doing many updates, but most of the folks around Hogtown like their chances.

There is also one forward that is completely off the radar, that could pull a surprise…a big time player that I am hearing the Gators have a real shot with.
Got A FSU Fan Coming On My Blog Guys.......

I decided I would not only post this comment to the blog.....but I would copy and paste too. Here is a Seminole feeling good about themselves now. They are 5-1 and thinking they have done something. This poster who is too scared to post anything other than anomnymous forgets they were embarrassed by a Sooner team....lol!

And, they play in the ACC.

They played Jacory Harris and crew and now feel like they have arrived.

Well, fan you are still FSU....the team that your former players are embarrassed by. A shadow of your former self. You still have a sporadic QB, an undisciplined secondary, and a teamed that hadn't been challenged.

You were going into the half with Wake Forest and had not scored. If I were you sir....(yes a not capitalized sir) I would wait and let the season play out.

You are a traditional 7-6 team now looking to do better. Anything, I might add would be an improvement.

I would rather have my Gators any day. And, yes....see you at Doke.

lookin forward to watching the not so mighty gators come to tallahassee in november, my how things look differently now. hey, keep wearing orange, looks great! haha see you at doak! whose the joke now!!!!!!

Meyer Talks About the Loss and Where To Go From Here

I could go on and on about my Gators and what I thought went wrong. But, the one thing that is evident....it's hard to stay at the top. I am amazed out at how long Alabama was able to do it.
Anyway, the Gators have a lot to work on. I am surprised an Urban Meyer coached team was not ready for trickery from Les Miles.....
I think our offense is young but talented. I think Coach Addazio does not have the imagination of Dan Mullen.
Our defense is young....
This all reminds me of 2007 after we won the NC and came back with such youth. Silly me thought we could reload and rebuild and still be in the hunt for the NC. Well, reality has set in.
I love my Gators.....
The task now is not to falter down the stretch. Let's take care of Miss State and Georgia....and get to the South Carolina game with two losses. I am hoping by then that the Chickens will have two losses too.
Whatever this season may hold I am a Gator through and through.

Thanks For The Comments And Suggestions

They mean a lot to me. You guys have commented and emailed me....and I just wanted to say thanks for all the input.

I tell people all the time that this blog has taken on a life of it's own. But, I am so passionate about sports and competition I can't help but to comment on it. Again, thanks for paying attention.

A special thanks to Daniel out of North Carolina. I promise I am going to comment on Butch Davis and what he is doing to that program. And, thanks to my new comments from the NFL Picks.

Also, between being under the weather, work, and my Gators losing two in a row....I blogs have been scarce. I promise to do better.

Look for my college picks this weekend....a blog on my FFL....and my records. And, a look at these Jets again. My thoughts on Randy.....or "Mister 84 Don't Stretch,"

Again, thanks guys....

Gators Lose Again....

Okay....it's taken me this long to feel like writing about my beloved Gators....really, the world is upside down for me. South Carolina is leading the SEC East division. The Seminoles have a better record than the Gators....and Les Miles....the buffoon of SEC Coaches out coaches my Coach.
I can't even take solace in Alabama losing.

Well, I am still a Gator....still bleed orange and blue.

Maybe I can stomach more thoughts on this loss later in the week.

And, to all that are complaining that I haven't written much....work has been crazy. And, between travel from Europe to the US and then back and forth....I truly can't keep up.

Thanks for all the followers though.

And again, thanks to all those who knew not to call me last night. I love you all....

Coach Meyer

My Thoughts....

I am still in "loss hangover mode. I hope my Gators can bounce back.

But, every time I think about being 4-1.... I think Georgia has loss four straight games. Texas has fallen out of the Top 25 for the first time since 2000.

What hurts is Miami is ahead of us in the Top 25 by one spot.

In the NFL....

Those jets....yep, spelled it lower case for a reason....look good. Probably playing the most complete ball right now.  LT looks amazing and their defense looks good without Revis. Maybe they should have kept that wad of cash.

The 49ers are 0-4 and Singletary is going to lose it....I am sure of it.

The Jags won a meaningful.

Even I felt sorry for Cutler last night. Worst line play in my lifetime.

Riley Cooper suffered an concussion yesterday. Get Well soon. My match up of the week Vick v McNabb turned out to be revenge for McNabb. Get well soon to Vick.

David Nelson and Jabar Gaffney performed well with their perspective teams.

New England v Miami tonight. I say the Patriots hand the Dolphins their second straight division loss.

Thanks for all the hits guys....Go Gators!!!

Alabama 31 Florida 6

My heart wanted a different score but my mind kinda knew they would dominate. They are a physical and talented team. Thanks to everyone for giving me my space. My phone did not ring once last night....lol.

The best that I can take from this is that.....this is a young Gator team. They can learn from this game and, I hope they will.

It's great to be a Gator!!!

Some of what the players said on FB...

Trey Burton Never fun to lose ... Matter of fact I hate losing ... But we will get right I promise! So thankful for my family friends and teammates! Also thankful for my Lord Jesus Christ for giving me the opportunity to play this game I luv! God Is Good
Dee Finley I wanna thank everybody for the love...I love yall
The Truck Arrives At Bryant-Denny

My Thoughts On This College Football Day

The worst of the SEC Vanderbilt is playing the best of the Big East in UConn. Interesting....

I heard Game Day say "LSU v Tennessee is the bowl game of the worst QB play around. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Trey Burton writes on FB....."Believe".....that's all I can do Trey.

If Georgia loses in Colorado tonight....I say, "Mark Richt is gone.

Clemson v Miami will be of interest to me. I think the Hurricanes come out on top.

So, what if Cam Newton was still apart of the Gators. There would be no John Brantley right now. Newton is making plays with legs and his arm....

Masoli former QB for the Oregon Ducks now with the Rebels of Ole Miss....is not the real deal in the SEC. Another indicator that the Pac-10 is not the real deal.

So, Jeff Demps now a game time decision. Is this just a ploy by Urban or is Demps  really struggling? Hmm....

Go Gators!!!
I See Bama Fans Are Still Among The Classiest

LSU Puts Up Billboard In Gainesville

Gainesville Sun reports LSU in our backyard.....

More than a week before its football team plays the Gators, Louisiana State University is invading Gainesville.
This morning, I was surprised to see a Louisiana State billboard during my ride into work. The billboard, which reads “LOVE PURPLE LIVE GOLD,” is located just north of the Merlion Singapore Cuisine restaurant on SW 13th Street.
Louisiana State previously erected billboards near the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, where its football team opened the 2010 football season against the University of North Carolina. Louisiana State spokesman Herb Vincent said the billboards are part of a campaign to capitalize on the team’s popularity to recruit students.

“We decided instead of trying to change our image, let’s take advantage of the image,” he said.

He said the university’s recruiters are also in Florida as part of the effort.

Whatever their reason is I hope we make them pay for this one....

Our Kicker Is Out Against Alabama

Caleb Sturgis did not make the trip to Alabama. The word is he has a stress fracture in his back and will miss 4-6 weeks. Wow, is all I can say.

I thought the task at hand was pretty daunting anyway....but, you certainly don't want to play the #1 team in the country with all hands on deck. Well, I am still a Gator....and I will be one no matter what happens in Tuscaloosa.

Chas Henry will take over to kick FGs and, a freshman will do honors of kicking off. I hear that Henry was a kicker in high school so....I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Go Gators!!!

Update On Lacrosse From Gatorsports....3/20

The No. 10 Florida lacrosse team battled against a quick, aggressive Syracuse squad to defeat the No. 11 team in the country, 16-11, in front of 937 fans at Donald R. Dizney Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Gators were led by sophomore attacker Ashley Bruns (Ellicott City, Md.), who tied her career-high and her own school record with six goals while adding an assist for a season-high seven points. Florida also saw hat tricks from sophomore midfielders Kitty Cullen (Rockville, Md.) and Brittany Dashiell (Bel Air, Md.).

Sophomore attacker Janine Hillier (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tied her career high in points with four (2 goals, 2 assists), adding two draw controls. Sophomore attacker Caroline Chesterman (South Nyack, N.Y.) scored and added an assist while sophomore midfielder Jamie Reeg (Atlantis, Fla.) scored her first goal of the season.

The Gators were a perfect 4-for-4 from free position and outshot the Orange, 27-20. Florida won the battle on the draw, 18-10, continuing the Gators’ streak of winning the game when out-drawing their opponent. Chesterman and Dashiell each had a team-high four draw controls, which is Chesterman’s career high.

“The draw is so important,” Florida head coach Amanda O’Leary said. “When you possess the ball, they can’t score. Those 18 draws were critical because we needed possession of the ball. Their attackers are such threats and if you give them an inch, the ball is going in the back of the net.”
